Pediatrics

Checkups, growth and development, vaccines, and visits for coughs, fevers and other everyday illness, for children from birth to age 17.

What it is

Pediatrics is health care for children and teenagers. Well-child visits follow how your child grows and learns, keep vaccines on schedule and give you a place to ask what is normal. Sick visits cover things like coughs, fevers, ear pain, stomach aches and rashes.

Our pediatric providers speak to children as well as to parents, in words each age can follow. Teenagers get some time to talk with their provider on their own, as is usual in good pediatric care.

What to expect at the visit

  1. A nurse measures height, weight and, for younger children, head size. For older children we also check vision and hearing.

  2. Your provider talks with you and your child about eating, sleep, school, play and mood, and answers your questions.

  3. The exam is gentle and quick. Your child can sit on your lap if they prefer.

  4. If vaccines are due, your provider explains them first. You can say yes or ask to wait.

  5. You get a short written summary, including when the next visit is due.

How to prepare

  • A parent or legal guardian should come to the visit. Bring your child's vaccine record if you have one.
  • Write down your questions about sleep, eating, behavior or school, and anything you have noticed.
  • For a sick visit, note when the symptoms began, any fever readings and any medicine you gave.
  • Bring a favorite small toy or book for a younger child.
  • Bring any school, camp or sports forms that need to be filled in.

Questions about pediatrics

Can I book for more than one child?

Book one appointment for each child. To be seen back to back, choose times next to each other on the same day, or call us and we will arrange it.

Do you give vaccines at checkups?

Yes. Routine childhood vaccines are given at checkups when they are due. Your provider explains each one first, and you decide.

My child is sick today. Can you see us?

We hold some same-week visits for sick children. Choose the earliest time on the booking page, or call us and we will do our best to see your child the same day.

Does my teenager need me in the room?

Parents are welcome in the room for the whole visit. As teenagers get older, providers usually spend part of the visit talking with them alone. This is routine, and your provider will explain it to you both.

Prefer to talk to a person?

Our front desk can book, change or cancel an appointment, answer questions about your visit and set up a time with an interpreter.
