Nutrition

One-to-one visits with a registered dietitian for blood sugar, weight, heart health, food allergies, pregnancy and everyday eating.

What it is

A registered dietitian helps you turn health goals into food you can actually buy, cook and enjoy. Visits are about your life, not a generic diet sheet. We take into account your budget, your culture, your schedule and the foods you like.

People come to see our dietitian for many reasons: managing diabetes or blood pressure, lowering cholesterol, eating well in pregnancy, food allergies and intolerances, a healthier weight, or feeding a picky eater.

What to expect at the visit

  1. Your dietitian asks about your usual meals, your health goals and what has or has not worked before.

  2. Together you choose one to three small changes to start with. We do not hand out long lists.

  3. You get a written plan with sample meals, shopping ideas and simple targets.

  4. Follow-up visits are shorter and focus on what is working and what to adjust.

  5. With your agreement, we share a summary with your other providers at Alder Health.

How to prepare

  • Keep a simple note of what you eat and drink for two or three days before the visit. Rough notes are fine.
  • Bring your most recent lab results if you have them, or tell us the name of your provider so we can find them.
  • Bring a list of your medicines and supplements.
  • Think about what you would like to be different in three months.
  • Check with your insurance plan about nutrition visit coverage. Our billing team can help.

Questions about nutrition

Do I need a referral to see the dietitian?

No. You can book directly. Some insurance plans pay for nutrition visits only with a referral or a diagnosis, so check your plan or ask our billing team before your visit.

Will I be told to follow a strict diet?

No. Our dietitian works with what you eat now and builds from there. The goal is steady, realistic habits, not rules that are hard to keep.

Can I bring my child or a family member?

Yes. The family session lets up to three people join. It is especially useful when one person cooks for the household or when a teenager needs support.

How many visits will I need?

Many people come for one first visit and two or three follow-ups over a few months. Your dietitian will suggest a plan, and you can stop whenever you feel ready.

Prefer to talk to a person?

Our front desk can book, change or cancel an appointment, answer questions about your visit and set up a time with an interpreter.
