Alder Health

Accessibility statement

Alder Health wants everyone to be able to use this website and our clinics. This page says what we do, the standard we meet, what is not perfect yet and how to tell us.

What this website does

  • You can use every page with a keyboard alone. There is a skip link, a visible focus ring on every control and a logical tab order.
  • Body text has a contrast of at least 7 to 1 against its background, which is the highest level (AAA). The “High contrast” button in the header makes secondary text and lines darker still, and remembers your choice on this device.
  • Text can be enlarged to 200 percent without losing content, and pages reflow to a single column at 400 percent zoom, with no sideways scrolling.
  • Every form field has a visible label, and errors are described next to the field and in a summary at the top. Nothing is timed out while you book.
  • Movement is limited to short fades. If your device asks for reduced motion, even those stop.
  • Photographs have text descriptions. The provider marks and illustrations are decorative and marked as such.
  • Online booking needs JavaScript. On every step there is a link to book by phone instead, and the rest of the website works without JavaScript.

The standard we meet

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and we meet level AAA for text contrast. We believe every page on this website conforms to WCAG 2.2 level AA, apart from the items in the “What is not perfect yet” section below.

How we check

  • An automated test runs the axe accessibility engine on every page, on every change. The build fails if it finds any problem of any severity.
  • Automated tests book an appointment using the keyboard only, and check that each page has one main landmark, one top-level heading and labelled regions.
  • Lighthouse accessibility scores are measured on every page and published with the code.
  • We review every page at 360 pixels wide and at 200 percent text size.

We have not yet tested this website with a group of people who use screen readers, switch controls or voice control, and we have not had an independent audit. Automated tools find only part of the problems people meet, so we want to do both. Until then, please tell us what you find.

What is not perfect yet

  • The printable forms are not tagged PDFs. A screen reader may read them in the wrong order or skip the form lines. You can ask us to read the questions to you, send them as plain text or fill them in with you at the front desk.
  • The maps are simplified drawings. Each has a written description beside it. The Get directions link opens an online map service that we do not control.
  • Times are in Central Time only. The booking steps say so, but the times are not converted to your own time zone.

Accessibility at our clinics

Both clinics have a step-free entrance with an automatic door, an accessible restroom, a quiet room, accessible parking and seating that suits different bodies. Both welcome service animals. The hearing loop is at the front desk and in selected exam rooms.

We provide interpreters for spoken languages and American Sign Language at no cost. Tell us when you book, or call at least two business days ahead, and we will arrange one. Large-print and plain-text versions of our forms are available on request. Details for each clinic are on the locations pages.

Tell us about a problem

If something on this website or at a clinic does not work for you, please tell us. Say what you were trying to do, the page, and the device or assistive technology you use if you are happy to share it.

A person replies within two business days. We aim to fix a website problem within ten business days, and if we cannot, we tell you why and offer another way to do what you needed. If you are not happy with our reply, you can ask for our practice manager, and you can also contact the Office for Civil Rights at the US Department of Health and Human Services.

This website is built with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and it relies on all three to meet the standard described here.

Prefer to talk to a person?

Our front desk can book, change or cancel an appointment, answer questions about your visit and set up a time with an interpreter.
